Planning is a skill, learn it and use it! It is top-down planning but specific implementation. S.M.A.R.T (specific, measurable, actionable, realistic, time-bound), similar to Test Driven Development (TDD). You set your goals specific, small, and measurable/testable. If your goal is big and blur, you will procrastinate to complete them and give up your goals at the end.

Using TDD or S.M.A.R.T in your life, itself becomes a rewarding system, it shortens the delayed gratifications (delayed gratification is ultimately good!). It allows you to measure your growth or self development.
