Do whatever he tells you 做他所吩咐的
-

Mary’s Guidance and Our Obedience
At the wedding feast in Cana, the Blessed Mother Mary said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” (John 2:5)
Perhaps you might think, didn’t Mary know the Lord Jesus? Mary certainly understood the Lord Jesus better than any of us, and she was clearly aware of the Son of God’s power. Yet, she likely didn’t know what miracle He was about to perform, because He is the Son of God. It was precisely this trust and obedience that led her to speak these words of profound wisdom: “Do whatever he tells you.”
In life, we often encounter difficulties and then we pray. However, as the Apostle James says, “You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.” (Jas 4:3)
So, what should we do when we pray? The Blessed Mother Mary’s instruction is the answer: “Do whatever he tells you.” This was also Mary’s response to God: “let it be to me according to your word.” (Luke 1:38) Likewise, this is the obedience manifested by our Lord Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane: “not as I will, but as thou wilt.” (Matt 26:39)
Our Lord Jesus’ Commandments
What exactly did our Lord command us to do? At the wedding feast in Cana, our Lord commanded the servants to fill the stone jars with water, and then to draw it out. And the miracle occurred—the water turned into wine. This was one of the miracles at Cana. Yet, Jesus’ commands are far more extensive than this. To truly understand Jesus’ actions, words, and deeds, you must at least carefully study the four Gospels. Here, I list some teachings I consider very important:
-
Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. (Matt 4:17)
-
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness (Matt 6:33)
-
you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. (Mark 12:30)
-
You shall love your neighbor as yourself. (Mark 12:31)
-
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. (John 13:34)
-
Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you (Matt 5:44)
-
So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart. (Matt 18:35)
-
Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful. (Luke 6:36)
-
You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. (Matt 5:48)
-
And as you wish that men would do to you, do so to them. (Luke 6:31)
-
Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy, that leads to destruction (Matt 7:13)
-
unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matt 18:3)
-
but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven (Matt 6:20)
-
If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. (Matt 16:24)
-
Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil. (Matt 5:37)
-
Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation (Matt 26:41)
-
Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. (Matt 7:19)
-
By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be my disciples. (John 15:8)
-
for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me. (Matt 25:35-36)
-
Do not kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother. (Mark 10:19)
-
keep my word (John 14:23)
-
God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth. (John 4:24)
-
For this is the will of my Father, that every one who sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. (John 6:40)
-
unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you (John 6:53)
-
He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. (John 6:56)
-
If a man does not abide in me, he is cast forth as a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire and burned. (John 15:6)
-
This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. (Luke 22:19)
-
Behold, your mother! (John 19:27)
-
do not be faithless, but believing. (John 20:27)
-
unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. (John 3:5)
-
Receive the Holy Spirit. (John 20:22)
-
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (Matt 28:19)
These are my personal selection of verses, hoping to help everyone better understand our Lord’s commandments.
